San Diego, CA (February 23, 2021) – Insurance Journal’s Academy of Insurance today announced the release of “Professional Lines Insurance: An Oral History: The People and Companies that Built a Niche,” by Larry Goanos, a book about the real-world workings of the professional lines insurance market.
There are many people whose livelihoods depend upon insurance – and not just people in this industry. Most people are oblivious to the fact that commercial insurance is at work behind the scenes to grease the wheels of commerce. “Professional lines insurance coverages are essential to investment advisors, public officials, bankers, stockbrokers, corporate directors, officers, consultants and scores of others who need the protection of insurance to do their work and advance the goals of society,” writes Larry Goanos.
In “Professional Lines Insurance: An Oral History,” Larry Goanos and about 400 of his peers, friends, and rivals share their personal and professional stories, giving the reader a feel for the ups and downs of the lives lived in the professional lines arena, even if they have never worked in the industry.
“To me, professional lines insurance is very much a people-driven, relationship business,” Larry writes. “While conducting my research, I found many signs of the basic goodness – and integrity – of the people in this industry. Along with plenty of hard facts, this book includes my personal views on our industry and my take on some of the more significant people, companies, and events in professional lines.”
In this book, you will meet the people who made this niche what it is today, including Maurice Greenberg, who wrote the book’s introduction. Read the stories of these professionals as they lived and worked through the days and months following September 11, 2001. Learn the history of the companies that determined professional lines insurance was an underserved market segment, how they decided to cover it, and how successful each has been so far.
“Larry writes in a conversational style that will welcome you into his world,” says Patrick Wraight, the Director of Insurance Journal’s Academy of Insurance. “He’ll introduce you to the people and companies that built this niche in the US, Great Britain, and Bermuda. By the time you’re finished, you’ll feel like you know these people and companies, almost like you’re family.”
Larry’s previous book, “D&O 101 Understanding Directors & Officers Liability Insurance,” also published by the Academy of Insurance, is currently #3 in Amazon’s General Insurance bestselling book category.
